East Coast Main Line (ECML) - Final Regulatory decision on new services

The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) has today announced its final decision on the introduction of new services to the ECML.

Grand Union is delighted that Grand Central's additional service between Sunderland and Kings Cross has been finally approved by the ORR, and it is intended that this service will be operational by the summer. The additional trains will run on a Monday - Saturday leaving Sunderland at 0918 and returning from Kings Cross at 1918, enabling Grand Central to offer a more attractive range of journeys throughout the day in both directions.

The confirmed ORR award of three return paths to allow new Inter-city services by Grand Northern to start from Bradford Interchange to Kings Cross is great news for this area of West Yorkshire, and the ORR has clearly recognised the importance of these services to the million or so people who will benefit from their introduction. Services will call at Halifax, Brighouse (for Huddersfield), Wakefield Kirkgate, Pontefract Monkhill and Doncaster and are expected to commence later this year in December.
